Copenhagen Day 2 - Headed Home

Another painful alarm strikes at 8:00 a.m. I can’t do it. I’m not quite able to make it out of bed. I close one eye, tell myself two more minutes, sleep with one eye open, and repeat again and again until 8:30 a.m. I have to get moving.

First order of business is breakfast at the hotel. The Danes make perhaps the most incredible staple foods of any culture - the soft cheeses, the butter, and the different varieties of coarse grained and sprouted seed breads make up nearly all of my breakfast. They are so good. I love what the French and Italians make, but somehow the Danes go in a different direction and make it feel healthy. We know better, it just feels that way!

Next, off to the Føtex department store to buy a cheap second bag. I have no doubt my one suitcase now surpasses the allowed limit for the flight home, thanks to my shopping victories. Success! Now off to the main attraction of the day – the Rosenborg Slot. This castle, the construction of which began in 1606, was home to the royal family of Denmark for centuries. This is an impressive place, far more elegant and amazing than the Amalienborg Slot. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

The Rosenborg Slot also houses the crown jewels of the royal family. A walk down into the castle basement through a large bank safe style door leads to these treasures. I can't help but marvel at the incredible craftmanship in these works of art.

Now, to the airport. It’s time to go home. I am ready. It’s been a fantastic week, far better than I had even anticipated with wonderful surprises along the way – Wimbledon, the above and beyond generosity of many people along the way, the discovery of new music, how very well the DecembeRadio concerts went, the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, and more. God has gifted me much.
