Wichita, Kansas

I stop by two great Wichita originals today.  The Dog n Shake has great burgers, dogs, onion rings, fries, shakes and funky soul music.

The sign above isn't kidding.  The thermometer tells the story:

Another great stop is Great Plains Nature Center. It’s a unique nature preserve that gives one a feel of what the Great Plains were like two hundred years ago. The native grasses are chest-high as they would have been then and wildlife roams the area.  A museum here tells the story of the plains and its inhabitants - buffalo, antelope, hawks, eagles, and more.   A large cage in the lobby holds a tiny white owl that gives us long stares interrupted by long, rolling blinks.
